"I want my buildings to take root and look as if they've always been there. It isn't about pastiche or adapting what's already there. It's about trying to blend the future and the past."     -Moshe Safdie

[80] Pilgrimage of Sense

A Sense Journey of Iceland

Within the current discourse of globalization, the value sacrificed for immediate and efficient production is often disregarded, altering our perception of time, space, and experience. Iceland’s allure as a tourist destination raises the challenge of balancing tourism with environmental preservation.

In response, our project, inspired by Iceland’s scenic beauty, seeks to create an immersive experience using sensors to reconnect individuals with the environment. Employing a methodology involving a gradient effect reminiscent of fog in a pool, the project layers diverse landscapes, beginning with a simple paper model and evolving through torn and reassembled photos with added material in gaps.

This exploration of sensory experiences is extended to four selected sites, interpreted through the five senses, creating a journey progressing from audio-visual to tactile sensations. The final destination, represented by ruins renovation, encapsulates the entirety of this sensory pilgrimage, echoing each sensorial experience encountered along the route.
